D100 Random Jungle Encounters: 5e DND Ready!

I’ve put together a great list of random jungle encounters you can use in your fantasy D&D 5e campaign.

  1. A youngster is playing with a ball and gets it stuck in the thick vines that are hanging down. He’s concerned a large creature will come and eat him up.
  2. A monkey is seen squatting down and is about to do its business.
  3. A snake is seen running away from a jaguar.
  4. Some giant spiders are seen climbing up and down the trees.
  5. A hungry looking alligator is sunning on the bank of a pool.
  6. A vulture is seen sitting on top of a tree.
  7. A troupe of druids is seen deep in the jungle performing a ritual.
  8. A herd of wild pigs is seen near a pool of water.
  9. A wild monkey is seen climbing up a tree.
  10. A lost explorer is seen bathing naked in a pool of water.
  11. A large group of monkeys is seen making a loud noise.
  12. A hungry looking jaguar is seen lurking in a stand of trees.

  1. A small group of orcs is seen near a pool of water, probably planning an ambush.
  2. A family of pygmies is seen resting in a tree.
  3. A group of natives is seen performing a ritual around a large fire.
  4. A group of natives is seen tied up and being pushed along by a couple of large warriors.
  5. A group of natives is seen dancing around a fire.
  6. A lost explorer is seen tied up and gagged.
  7. Some explorers are seen running away from a group of natives.
  8. A group of slender beings is seen dancing around a fire in the distance.
  9. A family of explorers is seen sitting at a table and having a meal.
  10. A group of natives is seen running through the jungle.
  11. A group of elves is seen hunting in the jungle.
  12. A group of natives is seen listening for any sound that might warn them of danger.
  13. A large beast is seen eating the remains of a human.
  14. A monkey is seen climbing up a tree eating coconuts.
  15. A jaguar is seen carrying off a young halfling.
  16. A group of elves is seen attacking a small group of orcs.
  17. A large python is seen eating a pig.
  18. A magma dragon is seen flying high in the air.
  19. A family of pygmies is seen fishing in a pool of water.

  21. A group of 2d10 elves is seen marching through the jungle.
  22. A giant snake slithers out of the canopy and attacks.
  23. A group of elves is seen marching through the jungle with a herd of wild pigs in tow.
  24. You see a group of 2d8 elves is seen marching through the jungle.
  25. Through the thick jungle canopy, you notice several streams of smoke rising from the ground.
  26. One of your party members is bitten by an insect.
  27. You are bitten by an insect.
  28. A family of explorers is seen climbing a tree.
  29. Somehow, a bunch of orcs have climbed into a tree, and they’re having problems getting down!
  30. A pygmy is seen waving at you from a tree.
  31. The thick brush stirs and you notice a group of elf warriors are about to attack you!
  32. Up ahead, you see a group of orc bandits!
  33. Suddenly, a storm breaks overhead and a lightning bolt strikes down at point-blank range!
  34. Something has been following your party for days, but you can’t get a clear look at what it is.
  35. You find a diamond as big as your fist.
  36. You find a ruby the size of your head! (It’s an illusion by a gnome hiding in the bushes, giggling.)
  37. A temple, forgotten by time, was buried deep in the heart of the jungle.
  38. A stream of blood is seen flowing down the side of a tree.
  39. You come to a clearing where you see a group of tribal women dancing around a fire.
  40. A group of natives are seen worshiping some sort of carved idol on the ground.
  41. A band of pygmies is seen picking through the rubble of a temple, looking for artifacts.
  42. A mad hermit has taken residence in the temples, and he wants you out!
  43. A spirit is seen rising from the ground and darting into the foliage.
  44. Giant centipedes are seen crawling out of the ground in droves!
  45. The ground begins to shake and move beneath your feet, as if an earthquake has struck!
  46. You discover a hidden treasure chest containing a garnet!
  47. Suddenly you hear a thunderclap overhead, and the storm continues to get worse with no end in sight.
  48. You find a strange wand, pulsating with dark energy, that suggests it’s some kind of key to something.
  49. The sound of a pack of bloodthirsty dire wolves nearby can be heard through the brush.
  50. A stream of bats is seen flying overhead, to some unknown destination.
  51. Strange noises and the sound of wood cracking pierces the air.
  52. You come to a clearing where you see a couple of pygmy hunters on a hill.
  53. A pack of bloodthirsty dire wolves are seen running in your direction.
  54. The sound of a swarm of bees can be heard nearby, coming closer and closer, possibly the disturbed swarm coming right at your party!
  55. You happen upon a stone altar, with embers burning around it
  56. One of your party members is bitten by a poison dart!
  57. A grisly totem pole with human skulls, animal parts, and body parts is seen in front of you.
  58. You see a group of pygmy’s playing a game involving a hoop made from vines tipped with arrows.
  59. You see tracks in the dirt appearing to be those of small dinosaurs’ prints.
  60. You see a group of pygmy’s hunting for food.
  61. Tracks from smaller animals can be seen leading away from this spot, their destination unknown.
  62. A rustling noise can be heard in the leaves as if there are small animals lurking in the jungle nearby.
  63. A small group of pygmy’s hunting for food can be seen from a distance.
  64. You can smell a strong and unpleasant stench in the air.
  65. One of your party members’ is bitten by a poisonous snake!
  66. You come across a pygmy tribe playing around with one another in a spirit of friendly competition.
  67. One of your party members notices a totem pole bearing the likeness of a thunderbird, which is revered by some tribes as a kind of ancestral spirit.
  68. You see an old pygmy woman gathering snakes in baskets.
  69. Your sights are met with a weird glow coming from deep in the forest.
  70. You find a strange-looking rock that appears to have writing on it, but you can’t read it, as if it’s not in any language you know.
  71. You find a snake coiled up and ready to strike!
  72. You come across a lonely pygmy sitting idle, his gaze towards the horizon.
  73. You come across a small solar eclipse blocking out the sun!
  74. You come across a moss-covered altar with a lunar eclipse blocking out the moon!
  75. A pygmy woman is seen pointing in an eastern direction and explaining something to one of her companions, her eyes scrunched up in deep concentration.
  76. A torrential waterfall, tumbling down into an unknown chasm, can be heard nearby.
  77. Your party must fight for their life against a swarm of bloodthirsty dire bats!
  78. The air around you smells sour and there’s a heat coming off of the ground that is oppressive and unpleasant to be near.
  79. You find some strange red mushrooms that taste bitter.
  80. A swarm of bloodthirsty bees attack!
  81. You are attacked by a group of 2d12 pygmy warriors who want to steal your goods!
  82. You find a severed arm from someone who’s been lost here in the jungle!
  83. You come across a group of pygmy women gathering berries, striking up a sing-a-long of sorts in the process.
  84. A pygmy hunter’s spear falls to the ground, the attack startling him and he falls on top of it!
  85. You come across a pygmy man who, upon seeing you, he becomes frantic and runs towards the edge of the clearing and falls off a rock face!
  86. You come across a pygmy man who, upon seeing you, he looks terrified and runs as fast as he can away from you!
  87. You come across a group of pygmy women hunting for food and collecting berries at the same time.
  88. You come across a pygmy woman hunting for food, who looks over in your direction and gives you a friendly wave!
